The current congestion at major ports has left several fertiliser carrying vessels stranded, jeopardising the country's ability to meet the needs of farmers during the critical kharif sowing season.

Improved rainfall has accelerated kharif sowing, with nearly 60% of the normal level being achieved by July 17.
